Arsenal versus Chelsea

🔴ARSENAL 🆚 CHELSEA 🔵

Arsenal is attempting to win their third straight match against Chelsea in the Premier League, a feat they haven’t accomplished since February 2004.

Arsenal have never lost an EPL meeting against Chelsea in midweek (Tuesday-Thursday), with four victories and six draws in those confrontations.

However, Chelsea did triumph in this specific match at the Emirates Stadium the previous year.

Only two of Mikel Arteta’s 35 Premier League losses as Arsenal manager have come at the hands of the Blues, and one of those defeats—the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates in December 2019—was the first one he experienced as a head coach in the league. That was only Arteta’s second match in charge. On that particular day, Chelsea’s current striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arsenal’s current midfielder Jorginho both scored goals for their respective former teams.

With a victory over Chelsea on Tuesday night, Arsenal can regain the league lead.

The Gunners have struggled lately, going winless in their previous four games, and Manchester City overtook them at the top this past weekend. In the title battle, Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Fulham 2-1 to go a point ahead of Arsenal, and City still have a game left to play.

Arteta feels the Gunners can bounce back in a big way when they play at the Emirates Stadium for the first time since the thrilling 3-3 draw with Southampton because he hasn’t given up on the title just yet. The Gunners’ most recent game last season ended in a 4-1 loss against City.

William Saliba, who will join Takehiro Tomiyasu and midfielder Mohamed Elneny on the sidelines, will still not be starting for Arsenal in this game, according to Arteta. Reece James, Armando Broja, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mason Mount, and Marc Cucurella are already unavailable for the trip to Arsenal, so Chelsea will be worried about the health of leading scorer Kai Havertz prior to the lineup announcement made before the game.
